Artist's Statement

I grew up learning to embroider, dress-make, knit and crochet and studied needlework to O-Level. I made clothes for myself and my children, embroidered pictures and created my own designs for Assissi work. After doing full time work and no stitching for quite a few years I was inspired by seeing display quilts at Eccles Farm Needlework Centre and learned fabric manipulation techniques there, making a 3-D quilt. The Design and Embroidery exhibition held there for C&G students in 2007 was inspirational; I enrolled and completed my Certificate in 2012.
I am particularly fond of pattern and colour. I have explored different ways of colouring both natural and synthetic fabrics and developed techniques for colouring black silk and for stabilising fabrics that fray easily.  I enjoy embellishing and machine embroidery, adding in beading and hand stitching. I continue to learn Ruskin Lace and I enjoy knitting/felting bags. I am working with Evolon / Lutradur to colour and print base fabric for stitch as well as developing designs with transfer prints..
